MISSION STATEMENT

Our mission is to connect Soldiers and their dependents to the resources that are needed to facilitate successful transition from military service.

What is TAP?

The TAP provides transition and employment assistance to Soldiers and their adult family members who are transitioning from active duty, and to veterans. Pre-separation planning is a critical part of a Soldier’s transition to civilian life. It includes learning about benefits information, creating and maintaining budgets, developing job search skills, career guidance, job search assistance, and other guidance relevant to transitioning from military service.

Why is TAP Important?

In addition to giving vital direction, pre-separation planning through TAP is Congressionally mandated by Public Law 107-103, and the VOW Act, 22 Nov 11. That means that all separating Soldiers, regardless of rank or component, who have at least 180 days of continuous Active Duty service are required to complete all VOW Act requirements by attending TAP core courses, the Department of Labor Employment Workshop, and VA Benefits briefings within the VOW Act timelines. Most of the VOW Act requirements can be accomplished by completing required course instruction via the SFL-TAP Virtual Center or attending a 5-day TAP workshop soon after completing your initial pre-separation counseling.

A completed DD Form 2648 is your proof that you have received the required counseling. Soldiers cannot clear Presidio of Monterey without meeting all Career Readiness Standards (CRS), and without the DD form 2648 signed by their commander or designee. Retiring Soldiers can begin using TAP services 24 months prior to retirement and Soldiers who are separating can begin using TAP up to 18 months prior to ETS. How Do I Get Started?

Please visit the Army Pre-Separation page, and follow the directions for the Pre-Separation on-line presentation, etc. to learn more about pre-separation information and planning. Completing the presentation will also populate your information into the TAP XXI portal, a tracking system that will be used to track your progress within the program.
