Build A Blue Ribbon Tree to Help Prevent Child Abuse

Apr 1, 2026

The Family Advocacy Program invites the Fort Meade community to make a difference in the life of a child by “Building a Blue Ribbon Tree”. April is nationally recognized as Child Abuse Prevention Month. The blue ribbon is the symbol for child abuse because it represents the blue color of a child’s bruises and serves as a constant reminder that all of us have a responsibility to help keep children safe.

The Family Advocacy Program will display photographs of the tree displays online through their electronic “Tree Registry” on the DFMWR website and social media outlets. Creativity is encouraged! Decorate a tree with blue ribbons or design a blue tree display on a wall or door as a reminder to fight for our children.

A “Tree Registry” form is provided for individuals and organizations to register their tree displays with the Family Advocacy Program. The registration form is attached and copies are available at the FAP Center at 301-677-4118 or our office at 2468 85th Medical Battalion Avenue.
