Lt. Col. Stephen Battle
83rd Civil Affairs Bn. Commander

LTC Stephen L. Battle is a prior enlisted Infantryman, and was commissioned into the Infantry Branch in 1998 through the ROTC Department at the University of Dayton. As an Infantryman and Infantry Officer, LTC Battle served in various assignments at Ft. Drum, Ft. Bragg, Joint Base Lewis McChord and Ft. Hood. LTC Battle assessed into the Civil Affairs Branch in 2005 and served as a CA Team Leader and Civil Military Support Element in the 97th CA BN. As a MAJ, LTC Battle served as the BCT S9 for 4th BDE 101st ABN DIV (AASLT), Company Commander of D Co. 98th CA BN and XO for the 98th CA BN. His latest assignment was to the Office of Special Warfare, where he served as the Operations Officer and XO. His operational and combat experience includes deployments to Somalia, Kosovo, Iraq, The Republic of the Philippines, Bangladesh, Thailand, Afghanistan, and Latin America.

His Military Education Includes US Army Airborne, Air Assault, Sniper and Ranger Schools, Infantry Officer Basic Course, Armor Captain's Career Course, Civil Affairs Qualification Course, Advanced Regional Analysis Course, Special Operations Language Training Course (Tagalog), and the Intermediate Level Education Course at the US Army Command and General Staff College.

LTC Battle's Awards and Decorations Include the Bronze Star with Oak Leaf Cluster, Meritorious Service Medal with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters, Army Commendation Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, Joint Meritorious Achievement Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary and Service Medals for service in Iraq and Afghanistan, Expert and Combat Infantryman's Badge (with second service star), Combat Action Badge, Parachutist Badge, Air Assault Badge and the US Army Ranger Tab.

LTC Battle's Civilian Education Includes a BA in History from the University of Dayton and a MS in Defense Analysis from the Naval Postgraduate School.
