CSM David L. May III entered the United States Army in November 1995 and attended one-station unit training at Fort McClellan, Alabama as a Military Policeman. During his career he has served as a Military Police Driver, Machine Gunner, Military Police Investigator, Team Leader, Squad Leader, Senior Small Group Leader, Operations Sergeant, Platoon Sergeant, First Sergeant, and the Train, Advise, Assist Command-Capital Region Senior Enlisted Leader in Afghanistan.
CSM May’s assignments include the 805th Military Police Company Raleigh, North Carolina; Center Military Police Company Fort Bliss, Texas; HHD, 254th BSB Schinnen, Netherlands; 170th Military Police Company Fort Lewis, Washington; 527th Military Police Company Giessen, Germany; 118th Military Police Company (Airborne) Fort Bragg, North Carolina; XVIII Airborne Corps NCO Academy Fort Bragg, North Carolina; 55th Military Police Company Camp Casey, Korea; 21st Military Police Company (Airborne) Fort Bragg, North Carolina; 170th Military Police Company Joint Base Lewis-McCord, Washington; 21st Military Police Company (Airborne) Fort Bragg, North Carolina; and the NCO Leadership Center of Excellence Fort Bliss, Texas. CSM May has deployed six times in support of both combat and operational assignments.
His military and civilian education includes completing all schools within the Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development System. He has completed the Advanced Airborne School’s Jumpmaster Course, Ranger School, Airborne School, Air Assault School, Protective Service Training, Asymmetric Warfare Group Adaptive Leader Course, Police Transition Team Course, and the Anti-Terrorism Evasive Driving Course. He is a graduate of the Sergeant’s Major Academy, Class 70, and holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Leadership and Workforce Development.
CSM May’s awards and decorations include: Bronze Star Medal (1 OLC), Meritorious Service Medal (4OLC), Joint Services Commendation Medal (1 OLC), Army Commendation Medal with Valor, Army Commendation Medal (6 OLC), Army Achievement Medal (3 OLC), and Army Good Conduct Medal (6th Award). National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal (3 Campaign Stars), Iraq Campaign Medal (2 Campaign Stars), Korean Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, NCO Development Ribbon (Numeral 5), Overseas Service Ribbon (Numeral 6), NATO Service Medal, Combat Action Badge, Ranger Tab, Senior Parachutist Badge, Air Assault Badge, Drivers Badge (W), and the Malawi and German Parachutist Badges. CSM May is a member of the Sergeant Audie Murphy Club.
CSM May is married to Nicole A. May and they have three daughters: Sami, Sienna, and Sofia.
