Be Aware: It Is Coyote Mating Season.03 Feb 2025 20:55
If you encounter a coyote: Stand tall and be assertive, haze the coyote until it leaves the area (wave your arms, make loud noises and/or throw small objects in its direction). Coyotes will go after small pets, however. Fort Liberty regulations require all pets to be leashed and if your pets are leashed, coyotes likely will not approach. While there are coyotes around Fort Liberty’s cantonment area, they are not a significand concern for humans. During the mating season they will move more and could act differently, but unless they fail to respond to ‘hazing’ one should not be concerned. Coyotes, a non-native species, can be regularly encountered in North Carolina and may be seen more during mating season in Jan and Feb.
