Winter Weather Season: Be Prepared
03 Dec 2024 20:32
The Fort Liberty Emergency Management Office wants to remind everyone to be prepared for adverse winter weather. Some suggestions: Restock your shelter and/or bug out kit. Ensure your vehicle has an emergency kit: Flares, Blanket, Kitty litter (traction for tires), Shovel, Battery charger for cell phone. Check your family plan. Bring pets inside. Listen to alerts and weather information. Check around your home for areas that may be affected by the weather. Clogged gutters may freeze up and separate from your home causing hazards. Be careful, tree limbs may get weighed down and break off, possibly hurting someone. Use caution while driving during winter months. Roads can become slippery. Keep a safe distance from other vehicles to allow for additional braking distance. Be ready for power outages: Prep generators- Run in a ventilated area (outside). Test batteries in your flashlights, radios, and smoke detectors. Check on your neighbors. Dress appropriate for the weather- learn to recognize signs for frostbite and hypothermia.
