Due to COVID-19, our Soldier for Life - Transition Assistance Program adjusted our services and procedures to meet the needs of transitioning Soldiers. Assisting transitioning Soldiers is our upmost priority and we are doing everything within our capabilities to make this as seamless as possible.
What is the Soldier For Life - Transition Assistance Program (SFL-TAP)?
We provide transition and employment assistance to Soldiers and their adult family members who are transitioning from active duty. We also assist Veterans, Retirees, and DoD Civilian employees who are in a Reduction in Force (RIF) status. Pre-separation planning includes benefits information, job search skills development, career guidance, search assistance, and a multitude of other services that are vital to a seamless transition.
Why is Transition Assistance Important?
SFL-TAP is a Commander's program mandated by law that supports the Veteran's Opportunity to Work (VOW) Act and Department of Defense/Army Transition Policy. The program's goal is to prepare Soldiers for transition, reduce the number of unemployed Veterans, and reduce the stress our Soldiers and their Families experience during the transition process. Commanders and Directors will manage and facilitate the transition process for Soldiers leaving active duty starting 18 months prior (24 months for Retirees) but not later than 12 months prior to separation.

Transition Assistance Program Resources:
There is a library of literature in our computer lab that pertains to writing effective and persuasive resumes, conducting a successful interview, and how to choose a career path. We also have computer workstations available to use for preparing or searching for employment or education opportunities. These resources are available to all during normal business hours, 7:30 am to 4:00 pm.
Veterans Affairs (VA) Representatives On-Site
VA counselors are co-located with Transition Assistance and provide the VA benefits I and II brief during the week-long Transition Assistance Program workshop. They are also available for individual sessions and can provide detailed explanations of benefits and programs that are available. They Counselors are also a source of information for other questions relating to VA. The counselors can’t submit claims for disability, but can provide information on claim requirements and how the claims process works. Education Counselor On-Site
The Soldier for Life – Transition Assistance Program has an Education Counselor for those who want to learn more about their education options after they leave active duty service. The Education Counselor can provide comprehensive counseling and information for transitioning Soldiers and their family members on educational institutions, benefits, and GI Bill usage. Financial Guidance and Counseling
Our program has an Accredited Financial Counselor available to assist with preparing and planning for the transition from military to civilian. Our counselor will work with you on budget, expected expenditures, and other unexpected expenses that could arise. Call (913) 684-2227 to schedule an appointment.
U.S. Army Career Skills Program (CSP)
The CSP assists service members and families to find employment. They are designed to provide employment skills training which includes credentialing, training, apprenticeships or internships, to active duty service members who will soon be leaving the service. The program is open to all service members (with command approval) who will be within 180 days of leaving service when the program starts. Hiring Our Heroes Corporate Fellowship Program (CFP)
The CFP places service members with 180 days or less left on active duty into a 12-week fellowship (internship) program. The program provides mid to upper level corporate experience, credentialing education, and career skills training. For more information go to:

The Transition Assistance Program (TAP) is the primary 5-day Workshop.
This workshop is conducted at least once a month. It is facilitated by SFL-TAP Transition Counselors. Briefings are conducted by Veteran Employment Representatives from the Department of Labor and from the Department of Veterans Affairs benefits section. This hands-on instruction runs from 8 am to 4:30 pm each day.
