Fort Knox Holiday Card Decoration Contest – WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

  • Deadline to participate
    • Call 502-624-3104 to confirm participation no later than Nov. 24
  • Competition categories:
1. Military units (Company level and higher)
2. All on-post civilian agencies (Directorates, businesses, colleges, churches)
3. On- and off-post schools and other children-related agencies
4. Off-post civilian agencies (Municipalities, businesses, colleges)
5. People’s Choice (Individuals can go to Fort Knox Facebook between Nov. 25 and Dec. 2 to vote by “liking” the image of their favorite holiday card)
  • Holiday card requirements
    • Limit of one holiday card per organization (NOTE: Units that company level and higher may have additional cards)
    • Must use 4’X8” sheets of 5/8” thick, pre-primed plywood set up in portrait or landscape form
    • Back must be painted white with the appropriate competition category (1-4, as mentioned above) painted in black. (NOTE: All cards are automatically entered into category 5)
    • Must have a holiday theme
    • Must be in good taste
    • Must be consistent with Army Values (loyalty, duty, respect, selfless service, honor, integrity, personal courage)
    • Must not contain messages that could serve to offend people or convey political or ideological stances
    • Must not contain sales advertisements, pitches or slogans, and also must not include contact information (phone numbers, email addresses)
    • Organization names must be included in the holiday messages or listed separately on the card (NOTE: If the name is part of a logo for a for-profit organization, it must be no larger than 12”X12”)
    • Logos/trademarks for a for-profit organization must be no larger than 12”X12”
    • Particular religious content – to include images – is not authorized because the displays will be in a Fort Knox command-sponsored area that is not part of a chaplain program (Messages like “Merry Christmas” or “Happy Hanukkah” are the maximum extent to which any religiously-affiliated content is allowed)
    • Lighting as part of the holiday cards themselves is permissible but must be lit by using C or D cell batteries. No automotive batteries or generators are allowed
  • Holiday card turn-in information
    • All holiday cards must be turned in at Brooks Parade Field at one of the following times
      • Between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Nov. 23 and 24 or between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Nov. 25
    • Directorate of Public Works crews will be on site to retrieve the cards. They will set up the cards and also provide spotlight illumination
  • Holiday card pick-up information
    • All holiday cards must be picked up at Brooks Parade Field at one of the following times
      • Between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Jan. 6-8.
  • Holiday Card Decoration Contest announcement details
    • The winners will be announced at the Fort Knox Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony, which will be at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 4 at the Post Gazebo adjacent to Brooks Parade Field
