COL Ann Behrends
COL Ann Behrends arrives at Fort Polk from Fort Sam Houston, TX where she served as the Director at the MEDCOM G 3/5/7 Dental Directorate. COL Behrends joined the Army in 2004 as a Direct Accession. She served two years in Schweinfurt, Germany as a General Dentist. In 2006 she attended Prosthodontic residency training at the Naval Postgraduate Dental School in Bethesda, Maryland. After Residency she served at Fort Polk, Louisiana as Chief of Prosthodontics, OIC of Chesser Dental Clinic, and Deputy Commander. From Fort Polk, she went to Schofield Barracks, Hawaii where she served as Chief of Prosthodontics, one of two Prosthodontic mentors for the 2-year AEGD Program and then as OIC of Schofield Barracks Dental Clinic. Her next assignment was at Fort Carson, Colorado. There she served as the Prosthodontic mentor for the 1-year AEGD Program and then as OIC of DC2 and Deputy Commander. She was then selected for the nominative Command of Fort Sill DENTAC where she served for 3 years as the Commander.
She received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Health Education from Texas A&M University and attended Baylor College of Dentistry in Dallas and received her Doctor of Dental Surgery Degree in 1991. After dental school, Dr. Behrends attended a 1 year General Practice Residency Program at the VA Medical Center in Houston. She then became and associate in a private practice in Brenham, Texas in 1992. Two years later she opened her own dental clinic in College Station, Texas where she practiced for 10 years.
COL Behrends is a graduate of AMEDD Officer Basic Course, Captains Career Course, ILE, AMEDD Executive Skills Course and Pre Command Course.
Her awards include the Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal (2), Army Commendation Medal (1 Oak Leaf Cluster), National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon and the Overseas Service Ribbon (2).
She is married to her husband, Ronnie Bolin and has 2 step-children, 4 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren.
