OUR MISSION

The 519th Military Police Battalion's mission is to rapidly deploy and conduct Military Police Operations along the Full Spectrum of Army Operations in support of the JRTC and Fort Johnson, FORSCOM operational deployments, and worldwide contingencies. We also provide continuous Law Enforcement support to the Fort Johnson Community.

 

The 519th Military Police Battalion's higher headquarters is the 16th Military Police Brigade located at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, which reports to the 18th Airborne Corps. It also serves as an IMCOM asset under JRTC and FPLA.

LTC Joshua A. Larson, Battalion Commander

LTC Josh Larson, originally from Blythe, Georgia, is married to Abby and they have two children, Mai and Ethan. LTC Larson graduated from North Georgia College and State University, the Military College of Georgia in 2005 and commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Military Police. His initial assignment in the Army was at Fort Benning, Georgia as a Battle Captain with 3rd Brigade Special Troops Battalion, 3rd Heavy Brigade Combat Team (HBCT), 3rd Infantry Division (3-3 ID) where he was deployed to Iraq. He later served as the 3-3 ID Military Police Platoon Leader and again deployed to Iraq and later served as the Executive Officer for Headquarters and Headquarters Troop, 3rd HBCT.

Following completion of the Military Police Captain’s Career Course in 2009, LTC Larson was assigned as the Commander, 230th Military Police Company, Kaiserslautern, Germany, and later served as the Chief of Operations, 18th Military Police Brigade. Following this assignment in Germany, LTC Larson served as the Aide de Camp to the Commanding General, U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Division and Army Provost Marshal General, Pentagon, Washington, D.C. from September 2011 to June 2013. LTC and Mrs. Larson then moved to Fort Knox, Kentucky where LTC Larson served as the Future Readiness and Lieutenant Assignment Officer and later Captain Assignment Officer, Military Police Branch, Human Resources Command.

LTC Larson was selected and attended the Command and General Staff College (CGSC) at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas from June 2015 to June 2016. Upon completion of CGSC, LTC Larson was assigned to the 89th Military Police Brigade, Fort Hood, Texas as the Brigade Plans Officer. LTC Larson later served as the Fort Hood Chief of Police and Deputy Provost Marshal, then 720th Military Police Battalion S3 and Executive Officer. Following this assignment in June 2019, LTC Larson and family moved to Dahlonega, Georgia to serve as an Assistant Professor of Military Science at his alma mater, The University of North Georgia.

LTC Larson’s most recent assignment was the Director of Emergency Services and Installation Provost Marshal, The National Training Center and Fort Irwin, California.  

LTC Larson holds a Bachelor of Science from North Georgia College and State University in Criminal Justice, a Master of Art in Business and Organizational Security Management from Webster University, and a Master of Science in Justice Administration from the University of Louisville.

LTC Larson’s Awards and Decorations include the Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal (4 OLC), Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal (3 CS), Overseas Service Ribbon (2), Meritorious Unit Citation, and Army Superior Unit Award.

LTC Larson’s Skills and Certifications includes Basic Parachutist, Pathfinder, Army Staff Identification Badge, Basic Instructor Badge, Combatives Level I & II, German Armed Forces Efficiency Badge in Gold, Action Officer Force Integration Course, Law Enforcement Senior Leader Course, and Common Faculty Development Instructor Course.

 

CSM David G Baucan, Battalion Command Sergeant Major

CSM David G. Baucan is a native of Arthurdale, West Virginia, and entered the United States Army in 1999. He completed One Station Unit Training (OSUT) at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, where he earned the MOS 31B / Militar Police. MSG Baucan has served as Gunner, Driver, Team Leader, Platoon Sergeant Assistant Operations Sergeant, Battalion S3 NCOIC, Senior Training Management NCO, Senior Drill Sergeant, First Sergeant, and Provost Marshal Operations NCO.

His Stateside assignments include Fort Liberty, North Carolina; Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri; Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington; Fort Bliss, Texas. His overseas assignments include Panzer Kaserne, Stuttgart, Germany, and Warner Barracks, Bamberg Germany. He has deployed to Kandahar, Afghanistan (2001-2002); Mosul Iraq (2003-2004); Hilla, Iraq (2005-2006); Khogyani, Afghanistan (2009-2010); and Logar, Afghanistan (2012-2013) for combat operations.

CSM Baucan’s military education includes US Army Airborne School, Combat Life Saver Course, Basic Leaders Course, Critical Incident Peer Support Course, 82nd Airborne Advance Airborne School (Jumpmaster), Advance Leaders Course with Common Core, Unit Movement Officer, Master Driver Trainer Course, Battle Staff NCO Course, Small Arms Master Marksman Course, TC-AIMS II Function User, Senior Leaders Course, US Army Pathfinder Course, Military Deception Planner Course, Operations Security Level II, Antiterrorism Officer Basic and Advanced Course, US Army Drill Sergeant School, Fort Leonard Wood 1SG ‘s Course, and Crime and Criminal Intelligence Analysis Course. MSG Baucan is currently attending the Sergeant Majors Course. His civilian education includes a high school diploma from Preston High School, West Virginia; an Associates in Arts for General Studies, Central Texas College. MSG Baucan has recently completed the final requirements.

CSM Baucan is married to Nichole R. Baucan, and they have a son, Brennan L. Baucan.

  • Travel south via US-171 S. Take a left onto Entrance Rd to the Fort Johnson main gate. Make a right onto Mississippi Ave. Turn left at 22nd St., and you will find the Department of Emergency Services and the 519th Military Police Battalion Headquarters on your left.

From Alexandria:

  • Travel west on HWY 28. Take Gate 6 / Chaffee Rd exit to Gate 6. Continue south until Chaffee turns into Georgia Ave. Make a right on 22nd St., and you will find the Department of Emergency Services and the 519th Military Police Battalion Headquarters on your right.
