Command Sergeant Major, JRTC and Fort Johnson
CSM Oracio Peña Jr. is a native of Hillsboro, Texas. He enlisted into the Army in September 1998. He attended One Station Unit Training (OSUT) at Fort Benning, Georgia, as a 11C Indirect Fire Infantryman and was assigned to 3-66 AR, 4ID at Fort Hood, Texas. He re-classed to 11BInfantryman, while assigned to 1st Armor Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas in June 2005.
His assignments include Fort Hood, Texas; Schofield Barracks, Hawaii; Fort Benning Georgia; Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska; Fort Bliss, Texas; Fort Irwin, California; and Fort Campbell, Kentucky.
CSM Peña has served in every leadership position to include 60mm-120mm Mortar Gunner, Team Leader, Squad Leader, Platoon Sergeant, First Sergeant, Battalion and Brigade Command Sergeant Major.
He has deployed to Iraq in Support of Operation Iraqi Freedom/Operation New Dawn twice, Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom once, and Poland in support of Atlantic Resolve.
CSM Peña’s military education includes all Noncommissioned Officers Professional Development System (NCOPDS) Courses. He is a graduate USASMA Class 67. He is a graduate of Drill Sergeant School, Ranger School, Jumpmaster Course, Airborne School, Air Assault School, Pathfinder School, Master Combative Course, Master Resilience Trainer Course, 1SG Course, and BN/BDE Precommand course.
CSM Peña holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Management from Excelsior University.
CSM Peña’s awards and decorations include the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal (2nd award), Meritorious Service Medal (6th award), Army Commendation medal (6th award), Army Achievement medal(11th award), Joint Meritorious Unit Award, Meritorious Unit Commendation (3rd award), and Army Superior Unit Award along with various other awards, and ribbons for service and dedication to the Army.
He has been awarded the Combat Infantryman's badge, Expert Infantryman's badge, Drill Sergeant Badge, Senior Parachutist Wings, Japanese Foreign Jump Wings, Air Assault Wings, Pathfinder Torch, Ranger Tab, Silver & Gold Spurs, The Order of Saint Maurice Medallion(Centurion), Order of Saint George Medallion (Bronze). He is a member of the prestigious Sergeant Audie Murphy Club.
CSM Peña is married to the former MSG (Ret.) Mistie Garrett. They have 5 children; Jeremy 23, Kristofer 13, Adan 6, Aurelia 4, and Adelyn 4 m/o.
