Col. John M. Ives

Col. John Ives received a commission as a Military Intelligence Officer, branch detailed Armor, from New Mexico State University in 1997. Johnny is a graduate of the Armor Officers Basic, Scout Leaders Course, Military Intelligence Captains Career Course, SIGINT and Electronic Warfare Officers Course, Airborne School, Space Cadre Course, ILE, and the U.S. Army War College.

Previous non-command assignments include service as a Tank Platoon Leader, Mortar Platoon Leader, Scout Platoon Leader, and Troop XO in 1/72 Armor (Camp Casey, South Korea) and 3D Armored Cavalry Regiment (Fort Carson, CO); Assistant Brigade S2 and Cavalry Squadron S2 in the 3D ID; ISR Planner for CENTCOM; Group S2 and CJTSOTF-A J2 in 3D Special Forces Group; Executive Officer and Futures Officer for the DAG2; Deputy Brigade Commander-Forward and Operations Officer for 513th MIB(T); and the Senior Intelligence Observer, Coach, Trainer (I06) at the Joint Readiness Training Center. Prior to his arrival at Fort Huachuca, he served as the Executive Officer to the Commanding General, Army Cyber Command.

His command assignments include 22 months as the MI Company Commander, 2d BCT, 3D ID where he deployed to Iraq for Operation Iraqi Freedom; and 24 months as the Battalion Commander of HHBN, XVIII Airborne Corps where he deployed for Operation Inherent Resolve dual-hatted as the Base Commander, Union III, Baghdad, Iraq.

Johnny holds a Master of Science in Strategic Studies from the U.S. Army War College, a Master of Arts in National Security Affairs from Naval Postgraduate School and a Bachelor of Arts in History from New Mexico State University. His awards and decorations include an assortment of personal and campaign awards, Parachutist Badge and the Combat Action Badge. His overseas deployments and assignments include Iraq, Afghanistan, Kuwait, Qatar, Korea and Nigeria.

He is married and has three children.
