Provide Command and Control, Personnel Administration, Logistical Support and Training of Military Police Soldiers in Support of Installation Law Enforcement Operations on Fort Gregg-Adams, Virginia. On Order, deploy Military Police specialty teams in support of worldwide contingency operations.

• Conduct Expeditionary Deployment Operations in Support of the Offense, Defense, Stability and defense support to civil authorities (DSCA)

• Constituted 24 August 1944 in the Army of the United States as the 317^th Military Police Escort Guard Section
• Activated 1 December 1944 in Italy
• Redesignated 3 April 1945 as the 317^th Military Police Escort Guard Section
• Disbanded 19 October 1945 at Camp Forrest, Tennessee
• Reconstituted 21 July 1964 in the Regular Army as the 217^th Military Police Detachment
• Activated 1 September 1964 at Fort Holabird, Maryland
• Inactivated 29 June 1973 at Fort Holabird, Maryland
• Activated 16 June 2000 at Fort Lee, Virginia
