Gregory A. Harding
Mr. Gregory A. Harding is the Deputy to the Garrison Commander for U.S. Army Garrison, Fort Gregg-Adams, Virginia. In this role, he supports the Garrison Commander in accomplishing the mission of overall base operations management and represents the commander in their absence. He is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations in support of the installation and its tenant activities, and also for providing administrative program direction to various directors and special staff in finance, logistics, police and fire services, housing, engineering and environmental services, community activities, family programs and in the personnel arena.
Prior to assuming his current position in June 2021, Mr. Harding had been serving as the Deputy to the Garrison Commander of U.S. Army Garrison Okinawa since December 2015.
Mr. Harding’s civilian service followed his retirement from the U.S. Army after 31 years on active duty – his final assignment was as senior U.S. Advisor to the Afghan Deputy Minister of the Interior for Security.
During most of his Army career, he served as a combat engineer officer assigned to multiple airborne and mechanized infantry divisions, as well as several corps-level engineer brigades. His overseas service included two tours in Germany, three in Korea, one in Pakistan, multiple deployments to the Middle East, southern Africa, and the former Soviet Union and participation in Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm and Operation Enduring Freedom.
Mr. Harding’s educational degrees include a master’s in Defense and Strategic Studies from the National Defense University of Pakistan; a master’s in Operations, Plans, and Training from the Army Command and General Staff College; a master’s in Construction Management from the University of Florida; and a bachelor’s in General Engineering from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point.
His awards include the Defense Superior Service Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, the Legion of Merit with Oak Leaf Cluster, the Bronze Star Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, and two Army Meritorious Civilian Service Medals.
