Soldiers, Family Members, civilians can now register for Memorial to Monument Run at reduced price
FORT DRUM, N.Y. – Fort Drum officials, in partnership with the city of Watertown, invite military and civilian community members to participate in the second annual Memorial to Monument Run on Sept. 14.
The 11-mile run will kick off at 9 a.m. in Fort Drum’s Memorial Park. Runners may enjoy a beautiful course along the Black River as they make their way to the 10th Mountain Division Monument in Watertown’s Thompson Park.
The event is open to all Soldiers, military Family Members and civilians. Runners 17 or younger who participate in the 11-mile event must have a sponsor and be accompanied by an adult throughout the course.
Great news! Organizers have been able to lower the cost of the Memorial to Monument Run to $15 per person, which includes a souvenir T-shirt! Those who have already registered for the event will receive a refund of the price difference. Anyone who pre-registered without ordering a shirt will be contacted by email for the correct shirt size.
Those who have not yet registered for the run may do so at Eventbrite.com. Registration is still free for ages 12 or younger.
In conjunction with the Memorial to Monument Run, a 5K run that begins and ends at the Thompson Park Zoo will kick off at 10 a.m. Cost is $15 per person. Those wishing to participate may register at watertownymca.org.
In addition, there will be a party offering free family fun including bounce houses, climbing wall, photo booth, military displays, DJ, food and beverages beginning at 10 a.m. in Thompson Park.
The fun doesn’t stop there! A Ninja Obstacle Course for individuals 14 or younger also will be available, beginning at 11 a.m. in Thompson Park. Cost is $15 per person. Complete the course and receive a medal! Those wishing to participate may register at watertownymca.org.
But wait, there’s more! Memorial to Monument runners, show your race bib that day and receive half-price admission to the Thompson Park Zoo for you and your immediate family.
Memorial to Monument Run registration information
• All non-DoD card holders must register online no later than 11:30 p.m. Sept. 8.
• DoD card holders can pre-register online until 2 p.m. Sept. 11.
• Registration on the day of the event will be offered at the start line for DoD ID card holders only. Terms are CASH ONLY.
• Any remaining T-shirts will be on sale for $10 at the finish line.
• Other than the price discount outlined, there will be no refunds for this event.
Transportation / parking options
DoD ID card holders who live off post should facilitate their own travel to the starting line on Fort Drum. Non-DoD civilians living off post will park at Thompson Park and take a shuttle to Fort Drum. All non-DoD civilians must provide full name, date of birth and a phone number to allow a background check to be conducted to enter Fort Drum.
Civilians running in the 11-mile event need to be checked in no later than 6:45 a.m. at Thompson Park on the morning of the run to board the shuttle to Fort Drum. The shuttle will depart for Fort Drum no later than 7 a.m. Shuttles bringing runners back to Fort Drum after the run will start at 11 a.m.
