Fort Cavazos’ Qualified Recycle Program is an award-winning and Department of Defense recognized program. The goal of the program is to reduce the amount of material sent to the landfill, generate funds through the sale of materials, and support and promote environmental stewardship on and off the Installation. Recycling right provides a direct environmental and economic benefit to the community. Revenue earned after operating costs, is offered for safety and pollution prevention projects and morale events for Soldiers and Families to include the 4th of July fireworks, UFC fight nights, music on the lawn, and various single Soldier events. Everything the Fort Cavazos Recycle program could make, above operating costs, could go back to the community.

Fort Cavazos Recycle strives to make recycling as easy as possible for those living and working on the Installation. Throughout the Installation, blue recycling containers are provided to collect recyclable materials. Blue recycling dumpsters can be found next to all brown trash dumpsters as well as at the Fort Cavazos Recycle Center located off of 72nd Street and Railhead Drive. Use of recycling services is available for anyone living on or off post.

CAVALRY FAMILY HOUSING: RESIDENTS RECYCLE RESPONSIBLY PROGRAM (R3P)

The curbside recycle service offered by Cavalry Family Housing is not collected by Fort Cavazos Recycle. Cavalry Family Housing contracts collections to Inland Services who then delivers those items to Fort Cavazos Recycle. For questions about Cavalry Family Housing's Residents Recycle Responsibly Program (R3P), contact your Community Manager or Inland Services at 254-532-2256.

SINGLE STREAM MATERIALS THAT CAN BE RECYCLED

Single stream does NOT mean everything. Fort Cavazos’ single stream recycle program allows for only certain materials to be commingled together. Recyclables like cardboard, plastics #1-2, metal cans, and paper highlighted in the graphic is a list of acceptable materials.

Items listed in the “No, Thanks!” section will prevent the proper processing of recyclable materials. Tanglers, such as plastic bags, textiles, rope, hoses, wires, and cords will interfere with sorting equipment, requiring maintenance, which increases cost and jeopardizes worker safety.

DANGERS OF CONTAMINATES

Unacceptable items like animal carcasses, needles/sharps, ammunition, food and liquid waste, diapers, urine samples, glass, and hazardous materials like lithium batteries, gasoline, and oil regularly contaminate loads of quality recyclables, resulting in it being rejected and redirected to be disposed of as trash.

These contaminates can injure our team members, who are connected to the military community as a Family member, veteran and/or spouse. Improper disposal of these items has led to more than 10 fires at the Fort Cavazos Recycle Center in the past two years.

HOW TO RECYCLE RIGHT

  1. Remember, single stream does not mean everything - NO TRASH!
  2. Recycle all clean, empty, and dry cardboard, plastics #1-2, metal cans, and paper products.
  3. Keep food and liquids out.
  4. Keep tanglers like plastic bags, film, and wrap out.
