The Hazardous Waste Program consists of hazardous waste accumulation at the point of generation and temporary storage at the Classification Unit (CU) prior to disposal. Hazardous waste is managed on Fort Cavazos in compliance with applicable federal and state regulations.
At the point of generation, hazardous waste is accumulated in Satellite Accumulation Areas (SAAs) prior to turn-in to the CU. Once the waste is turned in to the CU, staff ensures the waste continues to be managed in compliance with regulations and is properly disposed off post.
The CU also operates a household hazardous waste collection program for the benefit of the military community. The program is available to DoD ID cardholders and their Families for the safe disposal or recycling of household hazardous waste and select residential electronic waste.
