89TH MILITARY POLICE, THE DRAGONS!
The 89th MP Brigade is a proud organization with a long history. The Brigade was constituted in the Regular Army as the 89th Military Police Group on February 19, 1966, and activated on March 15, 1966, in the Republic of Vietnam. The mission of the 89th MP Group was to provide general MP support for the III and IV Corps Tactical Zones. With the removal of US forces from Vietnam, the organization was inactivated on December 21, 1971.
On September 13, 1972, the unit was activated at Fort Lewis, Washington. The 89th Military Police Group was designed to command and control the operations of three to five MP Battalions and other assigned or attached units. Additionally, it provided a Provost Marshal Staff to the Corps headquarters when assigned as the senior military police organization.
The 89th Military Police Group remained at Fort Lewis until February 21, 1976, when the colors were transferred to Fort Cavazos formerly known as Fort Hood, Texas. On July 16, 1981. The 89th Military Police Group was reorganized as the 89th Military Police Brigade.
The 89th Military Police Brigade has deployed around the world in support of US Army missions, whether during war or for humanitarian service. The Soldiers of the 89th MP Brigade have found themselves supporting operations in the Honduras, Panama, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Virgin Islands, Bosnia, Hungary, Romania, Kuwait, Qatar, Iraq, Afghanistan, Horn of Africa, and Guantanamo Bay Cuba. The HHC 89th Military Police Brigade has supported Operation Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom earning three Meritorious Unit Citations for OIF in 2004, 2006-2007 and 2009-2010.
The 89th MP Brigade began the year by continuing to support its battalions who provide expert law enforcement, force protection, and community assistance to the Soldiers, Families, Civilians, and visitors of five installations, and support contingency operations worldwide. The brigade continues to support training and missions on a global scale in support of various operations.

INSIGNIAS ORIGIN & MEANING
Shoulder Sleeve Insignia: Approved on 20 October 1981 and serves as the basis for the Brigade’s Combat Service ID Badge (CSIB). The eight points of the star and nine yellow and green stripes allude to the numerical designation of the Brigade, while the star is an image traditionally associated with law enforcement.
Distinctive Unit Insignia: A gold color metal and enamel device 1 3/16 inches high overall consisting of a green enamel oriental dragon’s head grasping in its mouth a stalk of gold bamboo fired a red enamel flame at both ends and supporting an arched black enamel scroll bearing the inscription "PROVEN IN BATTLE" in gold letters.
