BATTALION HISTORY

Constituted 27 April 1798 as the 62nd Artillery Coast Artillery Corps (CAC). The regiment received campaign credit for the War of 1812. Activated at Fort Winfield Scott 7 January 1918. Assigned to 33rd Brigade CAC and shipped to Camp Mills New York arrived in France 21 July 1918; returned from France 19 February 1919, Demobilized at Camp Eustis March 1919.

On 7 July 1942, the unit entered World War II. Following a brief training period in the United Kingdom, the unit deployed to North Africa earning campaign credits for action in Algeria, Morocco, and Tunisia before deploying first to the Italian Campaign, then France, and finally Germany.

In 1995 the Battalions were rearmed with the Avenger system, the most advanced Light Air Defense weapon in the world. Both Battalions possessed the Forward Area Air Defense Command, Control and Intelligence allowing the Battalions to receive real time, digitized air threat data from a Joint source.

The unit now resides at Fort Hood, Texas under the 69th Air Defense Artillery Brigade.
