The 48th Chemical Brigade is a United States Army brigade located at Fort Cavazos, Texas and subordinate to the 20th CBRNE Command. The 48th Chemical Brigade is the only active duty NBC-defense brigade in the Army. The Brigade is tasked to discover, counter, neutralize chemical, biological or nuclear threats. The Brigade was activated 16 September 2007, under the command of Colonel Vance P. (Phil) Visser and CSM E. Donald Moten. Colonel Johannie San Miguel assumed command as the ninth Brigade Commander on 25 May 2023, and CSM Chylander Cummings assumed responsibility as the eighth Brigade Command Sergeant Major.

BATTALIONS

MISSION

48th Chemical Brigade provides command and control of two to six chemical battalions and other assigned or attached separate companies. Additionally, this unit will provide coordination for the use of the needed chemical units within the supported area of operations.​

VISION

48th Chemical Brigade will deliver cohesive teams who are physically fit, disciplined and experts in their field. These teams are “Ready Now” to conduct CBRNE operations in support of Combatant Commanders in defense of our Nation at home or abroad.
