Fort Belvoir is seeking interested parties in updating the Community Involvement Plan
US Army Garrison – Fort Belvoir (USAG-FB) occupies 8,656 acres on the western shore of the Potomac River in Fairfax County, Virginia approximately 18 miles southeast of Washington, D.C. The installation has supported military training since 1917 including during two world wars and has more recently functioned as an administrative and logistics support center for over 140 government entities. Operating as a self-sustained city, environmental concerns on the installation consist of areas affected by historical military training activity; landfilled areas; chemical releases; fire control training sites; and the long-term effects of light industrial activities. These operational components have impacted groundwater, surface water, soil, and sediment on the Installation. The Army is updating the current Installation Community Involvement Plan (CIP) and is seeking to identify interested parties on and within the surrounding Fort Belvoir community to assist with revision of the current CIP and to improve public awareness and engagement in the cleanup process.
In order to assess interest from the community, Fort Belvoir will be conducting virtual interviews to identify concerns, preferred communication methods, and commitment to involvement with the Army cleanup efforts. The virtual interviews will consist of responses to a brief questionnaire with answers and response themes to be incorporated anonymously into the CIP. Additional information can be obtained by contacting Carla Avery at (848) 327-4448 or cavery@contifederal.com to schedule an interview via phone, email, or through online communication such as MS Teams or submittal of a completed questionnaire.
