There are over 700 prehistoric archaeological sites on Fort Wainwright and its training lands. Some sites are found on the ground surface, others are deeply buried. Sites range in age from the homestead era in Fairbanks back as far as the end of the last ice age, 14,000 years ago. USAG Alaska archaeologists work hard to support Soldier training and readiness while learning about and protecting the Army’s archaeological resources.
