The 49th Missile Defense Battalion (GMD) is an Alaska Army National Guard unit that is permanently on active duty at Fort Greely, as part of the 100th Missile Defense Brigade (GMD). The battalion provides operational control and security for ground-based interceptors located at Fort Greely.
The 59th Signal Battalion conducts strategic Signal operations to enable mission command for Joint, DoD, and U.S. Army Alaska (USARAK) organizations within Alaska and serves as the Continuity of Operations (COOP) for the Regional Cyber Center - Pacific (RCC-P). The 59th Signal Battalion has units and personnel at the three major Army installations in Alaska: Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson (JBER), Fort Wainwright, and Fort Greely with its primary headquarters at JBER. Charlie Company, 307th Expeditionary Signal Battalion is also co-located at JBER to provide expeditionary communications support to USARAK all across Alaska.
The U.S. Army Cold Regions Test Center plans and conducts developmental testing, with an emphasis on Soldier participation, in the snow, extreme cold, and sub-arctic natural environment, in order to provide acquisition and Army leadership with timely, accurate, and relevant information relating to system performance.
The Fort Greely primary care facility offers Family medicine to Fort Greely active-duty Soldiers, their Family members, retired members of the Delta Junction community, as well as veteran affairs administration for veterans. The clinic, staffed with 11 personnel, is equipped with a radiology lab, four exam rooms, a medication dispensary, a laboratory for running routine bloodwork, and patient administration to include patient travel assistance.
The Ground-based Midcourse Defense (GMD) element of the Ballistic Missile Defense System provides Combatant Commanders the capability to engage and destroy intermediate- and long-range ballistic missile threats in space to protect the United States.
The Logistics Readiness Center (LRC) provides logistics base support to the installation by providing dining facility operation, issue of military clothing and equipment, property accountability, transportation troop lift support, management of General Services Administration vehicles, deployment and redeployment planning, and equipment repair.
